Sample College Admission Essay On Politics W A few simple exercises can help guide students to find novel essay topics. Writing a college essay can be one of the most frightening high school experiences. In fact, one can never know what to expect from a college admissions essay. If a student cannot answer yes for each question, that topic should be eliminated. This process helps students narrow their topics to two to three potential ideas. I then conduct a one-to-two-minute individual conference with each student to narrow his or her ideas down to one. During this conference, I focus primarily on whether the student’s topic has specific narrative elements and can be told within the confines of a short essay. Use these do’s and don’ts, as well as our other essay writing tips, and you’ll be in good shape. On that note, when picking a topic for answering a prompt, keep in mind that the admission officers have read hundreds if not thousands of application essays. This means you’ll want to avoid generic topics like “I worked hard to balance my schedule.” What is something unique about you? What’s something you’re really passionate about or dedicated to? For all college admission essays, it’s best to come as close to the maximum as you can, as long as you’re not filling space with meaningless sentences. For the Common App, I would recommend a bare minimum of 500 words, about 75 percent of the maximum. Writing isn't something that comes easy to every student-no matter how smart or driven. We work with students to help them convey in words what they are hoping to communicate to the admissions officers. Bridging this gap is often one of the greatest challenges in the college admissions process. While the Common Application prompts for the main essay are general enough to allow students to write about whatever they choose, it still needs to be clear how that essay addresses the prompt. Check and double check that a clear connection is made between the topic or lesson of your essay, and the question the prompt is asking. Some essay examples below are by students who chose to write about a challenge, while other examples may be helpful if you’re looking to write about yourself more generally. Admission officers realize that writing doesn’t come easily to everyone, but with some time and planning, anyone can write a college application essay that stands out. One way to do that is to work step-by-step, piece-by-piece. That's exactly the kind of college application help you don't need. In writing, there are few things as intimidating and insurmountable as a blank page. Templates can give you a good starting point for your college admissions essay. Usually the topics are the same, but motivation speech differs. Your essay is a unique reflection of who you are as a person. Even if your parent or friend is a gifted writer who would be happy to help you write your essay, do not let them write your essay. On subsequent viewings, revisions that you missed the first time around will appear. While you are writing the first draft, you are almost still in the process of brainstorming, at least on the level of the word or phrase if not the general ideas or concepts. When you revisit the work, you will see what you have written and often easily determine what needs to be revised, deleted, or rewritten altogether. Luckily, this process is usually more fun because you can already see what you have accomplished and are now simply “reworking the clay” into a more sophisticated and precise shape. Below are examples of college admission essays written by ghostwriters. The admission essays guaranteed the students a place in some of the prestigious colleges in the United States. While the personal essay has to be personal, a reader can learn a lot about you from whatever you choose to focus on and how you describe it. Why is it important to write a second or third draft of your personal essay? For the same reason that architects don’t decide that a house is ready to be built after only one sketch. The writing of admission essays is not a hard task. However, as many students find that they lack the proper writing skills, they often decide to obtain writing assistance from essay writing companies. An admission essay is a kind of essay that contains student’s personal statements and his or her vision of an exact college. It includes student’s purposes, reasons to enter the college, achievements they aspire to fulfill there, etc. The task of this essay is to show motivation and inspiration of a student who is applying for a course and persuade the authority of an institution that they will be worthy students. If you’re applying to 10 colleges and wait until two weeks before applications are due, you’re going to have a lot of writing to complete in a very short amount of time. Waiting until the last minute leads to stress and rushed essays that don’t accurately convey your message. Give yourself plenty of time to brainstorm, draft, revise, and get feedback on your essays. This is one of the most common mistakes that students make. In the pursuit to write the perfect essay, many forget to connect it to the original prompt. Your own words are the best way to convey who you are as a student and a person; using someone else's words won't give your essay an authentic voice. Additionally, if you're caught letting someone else write your essay, you may be automatically disqualified from admission.

How To Conquer The Admissions Essay

How To Conquer The Admissions Essay Don’t be afraid to ask for help on wording and style either, just make sure that your voice is always the one being heard, not your proofreader’s. Colleges can tell when you weren’t thinking about them specifically as you wrote your essay and were just casting a really wide net. Especially if you put the wrong colleges name on the essay! DON’T use too many exclamation points- you want to seem passionate about something, but exclamation points are informal, and too many can seem overly frivolous. The most important factor of your college admissions essay is that you’re writing about what’s truly important to you. Have confidence in your own choicesâ€"what music is special to you, the authors you most value, the activities you participate in. Your enthusiasm for wood carving, slam poetry, Coen Brothers movies, or whatever, is what will jump off the page. You will sound smart when you use your own words and your own voice to tell a genuine story that shows who you are. Get too much help. There is a fine line between asking someone you trust to review your essay and getting too much help. When your mom, dad, teacher or tutor starts giving you words to use or edits too much, your voice disappears. Word order means more than word choiceâ€"you need to check, double-check, sit for a while and check again to make sure your admissions essay is as polished as possible. Basic grammar is really, really, important; it won’t get you into a school on its own, but without it, you could cost yourself a spot. The more you enjoy your subject matter the easier it will be to write the essay. Come back the next day with a fresh eye and go over it. You will be able to streamline your line of thought that way so you can fit into word counts. Do tell a great story that communicates some unique qualities you offer a college. Do tell a specific story that grabs the reader’s attention. Don’t focus on a negative event or a struggle without spending more time on what you learned or gain from it? Don’t write about a person without spending 2/3 of the essay focusing on how that person shaped youâ€"specifically. Each essay should focus on different qualities and events, and should help you become 3-D for the admissions officers. 2) Make sure you know what you want the college to know about you before you decide what story to tell. Making sure you have the right punctuation in the right place and using active voice over passive is vital. That said, make sure your good grammar doesn’t keep the essay from sounding like you. Don’t push to use fancier language or longer sentences than you normally would. Use the simplest word you need to get a point acrossâ€"every time. Sell yourself as you really are, so that reading your writing and having a conversation with you both feel like meeting the same person. There aren’t too many things you can do to ensure rejection, but plagiarism, also known as cheating, is one of them. If you use a thesaurus to find words rather than trust the words you know and use every day, you will not sound like yourself. What’s more, you might use a few big words incorrectly, which will never impress an admissions officer. Colleges are not looking for the next Ernest Hemingway or Toni Morrison. Most colleges, as well as the Common Application, will have the topics for their essays available online. Look them up, and then start looking anywhere and everywhere for ideas. It’s always good to pull ideas from your own experiences. Think about what you’ve accomplished and what you feel defines you. Read the prompt before, during and after you write your draft, then ask someone else to tell you whether or not you responded to it. This mistake shows that you don’t care enough to proofread your application. Admissions committees might forgive a typo, but they don’t like to hear that you wish you were going to school somewhere else. You can’t make up that passion, and you shouldn’t try. Find an idea wherever you canâ€"application essays tend to be a source of hesitation more than inspiration. The genuine article onlyâ€"everything is significant when it comes to telling your own story. It doesn’t matter where you’ve been or what you’ve seen, and this is not a time where a reader is judging your list of achievements.

Although they're phrased differently from college to college, certain essay question types appear routinely. Be honest with yourself and where you will work best. Set a writing schedule.Allocate a specific and significant amount of time each week for writing. Drive your essay’s success by drawing the reader into your story with a great first line.If not immediately a scene, consider using a jarring fact or statement that requires explanation. Unfortunately, a huge percentage of essays fall into this category. The deeper you go, the better. For your anecdotes, focus on specific details. When given this freedom, choose a topic that appears inherently interesting to you. Inform a narrative that finest illustrates who you’re and how one can contribute to the distinctive make-up of a scholar physique.

What If My College Admissions Essay Is Too Short?

What If My College Admissions Essay Is Too Short? Home is the feeling of being comfortable with the uncertainty and uncomfortable situations. The feeling of being involved, nervous and excited all at the same time. The most important aspect about the Summer Academy was finding my people, the ones who talked about Nietzsche and Plato at lunch and had long debates and poetry slams after Seminar. Making friends was never an easy feat for me, but at the Summer Academy, I found everyone I talked to felt like we had been friends for years. I made an even more intimate group of friends who I still keep in touch with because they are more than friends to me, they are family. This prompts me to wonder if the universe is beautiful or not. Perhaps it is in functionality and mechanics, but many parts of the universe are uninhabitable and violent. What we know about the destiny of the universe is quite bleak as well. There are no textbooks, for each main lesson a student makes a main lesson book containing all original work. There is a substantial amount of time devoted to the arts and physical movement as well. All the classes are taught seminar-style and the most any classroom has is 25 kids. I was able to share my obsession with reading and the knowledge I gathered on any subject I put my mind to. After I came home, I knew I needed more information. I wanted to know more, I wanted to experience it myself. The summer after my Junior year I signed up for a Summer Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. I immediately found my people and a continual comfort of my environment which automatically equated to the feeling of being home. I think that my sophomore to senior years of high school have been a great preparation for a school like St. John’s. Each year I had a two hour seminar course every day, in which half of the grade is based on discussion, and the other half is on papers. In my pursuit to find a catch, I could only find nothing. Unlike other colleges with special course requirements, unstable administration, and strange traditional customs such as Freshman not being able to say the word ‘duck’, I found complete and absolute nothing. I signed up for more information; they stayed true to the image and personality of the college. I visited the Santa Fe campus and experienced classes, the campus, and the people. Surprisingly enough I made friends within 20 minutes of being on campus. Although I don’t love having a constant existential crisis, I do love reading things that push me to consider new ways of thinking. That’s why I consider this a great book, because it takes creativity and self- reflection and ideas about love and brings them together in new and powerful ways that make me feel more attuned to my surroundings. I have truly thrived in this kind of mindful learning environment, and think it would be imprudent to pursue an education that may be heavy in testing and memorization. I am too used to sitting in crowded high school classes where more than half the class did not do the reading. Reading is not checking off a box or attaining a grade, but something I have chosen many times and will continue to choose for the rest of my life. Although his writing is not easy to understand at first, I find that it’s worth the struggle. Everything Calvino writes is the perfect mixture of scientific fact and fable-like fantasy, and I’m so glad that I took my mom’s advice in that bookstore in New York. From this education, I have not only strengthened immensely as a thinker and student, but as a person as well. I know the value of community and how to be a good friend. Waldorf school’s use a block system for teaching lessons that are roughly three weeks long. Most of our endeavors in this world can be tied back to a philosophical question, but perhaps this is an ideal life. However, in my experience this is the truth, and I would like to continue my own and very human tradition of questioning. St. John’s fosters a life of the mind temperament that I think could last a lifetime. The curriculum at St. John’s is actually not that different from the curriculum at my school as I attend a Waldorf school. I began attending the Waldorf school when I was in 7th grade.

Welcome To Admissions

Welcome To Admissions As part of the Common Application, you will be asked to write one essay between 250 and 650 words. You will be asked to write a response to your choice of one of the five prompts listed below. This double life that I live now is so different from what it was in the beginning, when I was a normal kindergartner, just like the heroine. It wasn’t like reading Plato, or studying Mark Twain, where I feel cultured and empowered, adventurous and brave. My favorite protagonist and I grew up together until I moved on from the third grade, finally outgrowing that special connection. But reading the Junie B. Jones books taught me to connect in different ways with other texts. I knew what to look for, what it felt like, and I desired to find that connection in other places. I like working with the students and watching them progress. As hard as you’ve worked on your essay, you may get exactly two minutes of a Reader’s time if he or she feels your writing is boring or unoriginal. It's bad enough having to write one for class, when it's worth 100 points or a percentage of your grade. Now you have to write one that can be the deciding factor on where, or if, you go to college. For example, check out these 10 opening lines from Stanford admission essays. When you’re writing, open up and let your voice come through loud and clear. Be your wonderful, amazing self â€" idiosyncrasies, quirks, and all. The more real you are, the more intriguing you will be…and the more the admissions officers will love you. Before the series, I had no real interest in books. I loved stories, and I liked scribbling on pages and pretending to write books, but turning the pages of other people’s words never caught my attention. This essay is designed to demonstrate your ability to write clearly and concisely and help you set your application apart. Each application for admission to OU is read thoroughly, thoughtfully and fairly to evaluate all-around excellence. The questions below provide you with the opportunity to tell us more about your abilities in academics, the arts, athletics, leadership, service, and other qualities you may possess. They are often enigmatic, surprising, or even confusing. Junie opened my eyes to a world of possibilities, and saved my dad a neck cramp from sleeping at a weird angle. It would be all too easy to let my constant busyness and the distractions of daily life keep me from trying to understand the world and my place in it, but I won’t let that happen. I will forever be aware of myself and others, and I hope to never act on an unconscious bias. I know that Descartes was thinking thateverythingtold to him by his senses might be wrong, but I think his revelation applies more usefully to behaviors and biases we learn from a young age as well. However, through my entire high school life, I was not allowed to have a conversation in classes. Being quiet was the unspoken rule of manner and etiquette, where the dominance of the teacher to teach and submission of student to learn by observation was naturally accepted by all members of every class. You must submit your application for admission before submitting your essay responses. The Junie B. Jones series, by Barbara Park, was my real introduction to reading on my own. Before the B, as in Beatrice, I was content to have my dad read to me until he fell asleep. I was in Kindergarten when I got my first Junie B. Jones book. I couldn’t read it by myself yet, and my dad was in the middle of the first Harry Potter book, so the pick checkered cover was put on a shelf. When I was six, we moved, and a box of my books turned up in my new room. I collected the series, and when I finished with the ones I had, I reread them and begged for more. Not only that, for me, saying aloud my ideas helps me to better understand and clarify my thoughts, and thus myself. Kierkegaard and St. John’s are attractive for similar reasons. Either/Or ends with the statement, “Only the truth which edifies is truth for you.” A St. John’s student, Alec Bianco, shared how his music tutor commended him for trying to live musically throughout his life.

College Application Essay

College Application Essay You have gone through theâ€"often gruelingâ€"process of crafting a competitive admission essay. Now that you have completed your edits, revisions, and rewrites, conduct your final review. For the final review, focus on formatting, spelling and grammar, and punctuation. A mixed metaphor, the use of multiples metaphors at a single time, detracts from the narrative. Don’t let the prompts constrict your thinking on what is appropriate for a college essay, however. One brainstorming technique is to identify several tangible objects that have special significance for you. If you dig deep enough there is almost always a great and revealing story in one of them. Move around, stretch, go for a walk, or anything else that gets your mind off your writing. Immerse yourself in a comfortable workspace, free from distraction. Some students work well at home or in a library, others love to work in cafes. However, in their extremity, they were defense mechanisms against the demands of the world, and they were not sustainable. In trying to cultivate my own separate reality, concerned predominantly with my own experience, I became drained and depressed. Check out successful essays from current Johnnies. There’s no one right thing to say in an essay, but these Johnnies may be a source of inspiration. Likewise, dissimilar metaphors used in rapid succession confuse the reader. One of the most important qualities/values selective colleges look for in an applicant is curiosity. Read through your essay and look for opportunities to explore how your experience may be connected to historical, literary or philosophical ideas you care about. Breaks keep the mind fresh and allow us to be more productive over a longer duration of time. Structure your breaks into your work schedule and be deliberate about how you spend them. Considering which prompt aligns best with your overall story, brainstorm by asking yourself what are the strengths, personal qualities or values you want to highlight in the essay. The goal is for your essay to illustrate the development of them by showing you both in action and in reflection. Although they're phrased differently from college to college, certain essay question types appear routinely. See what you should do with them on the next page. In addition to reading it aloud, you can also try copying and pasting it into Google Translate. Hearing your essay emphasizes any mistakes that may have crept through. There is a strange distinction between reading on your computer and reading on paper. Be honest with yourself and where you will work best. Set a writing schedule.Allocate a specific and significant amount of time each week for writing. Consider this your hook to grab the admission officer's attention. Starting with an anecdote that puts the reader in to the action right away often works best. This can be a scene at the beginning of your story or you can jump right to a crucial point in the middle. On several occasions throughout my childhood, I decided to become a “scholar;” I would hole myself up with books that I couldn’t quite understand and pore over the pages until my eyes ached. Reading allowed me to feel connected with important ideas and values that were scarce in my surroundings. These endeavors were formative, and I do not regret them. In bursts of inspiration I would “homeschool” myself, withdrawing into seclusion. I liked to learn by tinkering and building things. I read books about agriculture, built a chicken coop and a garden, and even slept outside in my family’s field. I found these methods of occupying my time to be more fulfilling than the types of entertainment, namely social media, being employed by those around me. Once you lay out the challenge you faced and built suspense, you can flashback to provide the necessary background and context. After you have narrowed down your topics, decide which is best for you. This just means the one you are going to explore first. Remember, while you want your essay to make an impact, your topic does not need to be earth shattering or include the biggest hardship. The best essays are often built on seemingly ordinary experiences like shopping at Costco or baking a cheesecake.

What is the ACT Compass Test

Due to a decline in popularity, ACT phased out its Compass exam at the end of 2016. That being said, ACT Compass will remain an important exam for colleges and universities for the next twelve months and may be replaced by a similar exam in the future. The most well-known ACT test is (of course) the ACT, which is commonly used as an admission test for four-year universities. However, the ACT also administers a placement exam for students who have already been admitted to colleges and universities. This exam is called the ACT Compass and for years it has been used to test the level of community college students, and sometimes university students as well. How the ACT Compass is Used If you need to prepare for the ACT Compass, it’s important to understand that the Compass is not an admissions exam like the ACT. By this I mean that the Compass does not determine whether or not you get into a school. Instead, the Compass exam is a placement exam. Being a placement exam, your ACT Compass scores determine whether you will be able to take regular course-credit classes in all subjects right away, or will need to take some remedial courses. Remedial courses help you improve academic skills that you’re weak in. Since remedial courses are taught below the college level, they do not count as course credit toward your major or toward graduation. Community colleges typically do not require actual admissions exams, they will accept any applicant who is interested in attending. Since they accept students regardless of academic ability, community colleges need to determine the level of each student in order to place students in their appropriate classes. These two-year degree institutions generally require the Compass for all students after they’ve applied and been accepted. To see an example of how ACT Compass scores correspond to placement in certain types of classes, check out Des Moines Community College’s Compass Score/Course Placement table here. Since universities do require admissions exams, they don’t make every admitted student take the Compass. Instead, universities administer the Compass to students who’ve been accepted into school in spite of having less than the minimum ACT or SAT score normally required. This kind of acceptance of low-scoring students is called conditional acceptance. Typically, conditional acceptance is extended to applicants who got the minimum scores on most of the skills in their ACT or SAT, but did very poorly on one section. Suppose, for instance, that a university requires a minimum ACT score of 25. An applicant with a 29 in English, a 30 in Reading, a 24 in science, and a 19 in Math might still be very appealing to the university. Such a student is clearly doing well in most subjects, but will need some math help in order to succeed in the long run. So the university might accept the student, but ask the student to meet certain conditions in order to be accepted. In this case, the student would be required to take a Compass Math placement exam and attend a remedial math course selected on the basis of the student’s ACT Compass placement score. Content and Format of the ACT Compass The ACT Compass has a significantly different format than the ACT. The ACT itself is just one exam, with an optional writing section that can be added or left out. In contrast, the ACT Compass is a lineup of five different exams: Reading, Writing Skills (similar to the grammar and rhetoric questions on the ACT) Writing Essay, Mathematics and English as a Second Language (ESL). Each of these exams can be taken separately from the other. Within the ESL and Math tests there are narrower-skills-focused â€Å"sub-tests.† ACT Compass ESL has separate exams for listening, reading, writing, and grammar. And Compass Math is customizable, offering assessment in one or more of the following areas: pre-algebra, algebra, college algebra, geometry and trigonometry. The content of most of the ACT Compass exams is comparable to the ACT in terms of difficulty. However, content can sometimes be a little below ACT-level-assessment, depending on the exam. ACT Math and ACT Compass Math are virtually the same. ACT Compass Writing Skills are a little easier than English questions on the ACT and reading is also a little bit simpler. Similarly, a typical ACT Compass Writing Essay question will be a little easier than the average ACT essay. ESL is the one ACT Compass Exam that is completely different from the ACT in terms of content and difficulty. Each of the Compass ESL skills tests is leveled for students with different English ability, with level 1 being the lowest level and level 4 being the highest. Level 4 exam questions are almost as complex as the questions on the ACT itself, while level 1 questions are very simple and designed to place students who are just beginning to learn English. Studying for the ACT Compass Since the ACT Compass is for placement, not admissions, students need to approach test prep differently than they would on a typical admissions exam. Placement testing is meant to honestly assess your academic skills under normal conditions. So â€Å"cramming† for the ACT Compass is a bad idea. Studying a subject really hard can temporarily and unnaturally inflate your performance in it. This in turn could cause you to be placed in a class that really is too difficult for you, setting you up for academic failure. In fact, if you really are weak in an academic area such as Math, Writing, Reading, etc. it may be best not to study. If you simply show up for the exam well-rested and focused, the results will accurately reflect the level you’re at. From there, you can be placed in a class that gives you the help you need to succeed in more challenging college-level coursework in the future. There is a time when you definitely should study for the ACT Compass—when you are only a little weak in a college academic skill and may be capable of studying at the regular first-year college level. You certainly don’t want a difference in a point or two to cause you to take a semester of remediation when you probably could succeed in a non-remedial class. If you think you have a shot at avoiding remedial courses (with their extra costs and the delays they cause to graduation) do a reasonable amount of studying and get yourself placed in regular classes. Because the ACT Compass is a relatively low-stakes test, the official website provides only a few practice questions and doesn’t offer the extensive library of prep materials available for the ACT itself. Since you only need to study for the ACT Compass if you are in striking distance of acceptable scores on the regular ACT, it’s best to use standard ACT prep materials to prepare. The skills in each section of the ACT correlate to the skills on the Compass exams, with the exception of ACT science—science is not assessed on the Compass. So in Compass prep, aim for 20+ scores in regular ACT English, Reading, Math, and Writing practice. If you can meet typical university minimums on the ACT, you can ace the ACT Compass and start with your regular degree classes right away.

Discuss the Relationship Between the Principles of...

Discuss the relationship between the principles of training, physiological adaptations and improved performance The relationship between the principles of training and physiological adaptations has a significant impact on performance. Many factors need to be addressed in a training program to make it a successful one for a particular athlete and thus improve their performance. The first principles are warm up and cool down. The purpose of any warm up and cool down is to reduce the risk of injury and soreness. For this to be applicable, a warm up must be sustained for no less than 10min and for elite athletes, at least 30min. Included in this warm up must be stretching to loosen up the muscles. There are no physiological adaptations that†¦show more content†¦These adaptations are relevant because the body is being stressed which leads to more blood being needed by the working muscles. With this increase in stroke volume and cardiac output, it also increases the heart rate. Heart rate is the amount of times the heart beats per minute. This means that the heart is working hard and being progressively overloaded increases the efficiency and will improve the performance of the athlete. Another adaptation is oxygen uptake. When the body is being progressively overloaded oxygen uptake is really important because it is the amount of oxygen being delivered to working muscles. This amount increases when exercise begins but decreases as adaptations occur. This is very similar to lung capacity as lung capacity is the amount of air that the lungs can hold. Another physiological adaptation in relation to progressive overload is haemoglobin levels. Haemoglobin is the substance in the blood that binds to oxygen and transports it around the body. These levels are important because it’s telling us how much oxygen and blood is being used and directly relates to stroke volume and oxygen uptake. Muscle hypertrophy is a term that refers to muscle growth together with an increase in the size of muscle cells. For a sprinter this adaptation is very important because it indicates that the muscles have been stimulated and grown and anShow MoreRelatedAdl 01 - Principles and Practices of Management Study Material.Pdf Uploaded Successfully30836 Words   |  124 Pagesqwertyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnmqwertyui Principles and Practices of Management ADL 01 opasdfghjklzxcvbnmqwertyuiopasdfgh jklzxcvbnmqwertyuiopasdfghjklzxcvb nmqwertyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnmqwer tyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnmqwertyuiopas Principles and Practices of Management dfghjklzxcvbnmqwertyuiopasdfghjklzx Amity Center for eLearning cvbnmqwertyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnmq wertyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnmqwertyuio pasdfghjklzxcvbnmqwertyuiopasdfghj klzxcvbnmqwertyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbn mqwertyuiopasdfghjklzxcvbnmqwerty uiopasdfghjklzxcvbnmqwertyuiopasdfRead MoreApplication of Observational Learning6241 Words   |  25 Pageshyperlink. Essay On Connecting The Present And The Past - 708 Words

Research Proposal: Connecting the Present and the Past The rising income inequality between the wealthy and the rest of the population gave rise to the Occupy Wall Street movement of 2011. The idea behind the movement is the discomfort by the middle and lower class that a minority control the majority of the wealth in the nation. The richest 1% of the U.S. total population own a total of one-third of the U.S. net worth. From an economist’s perspective, one can see the gradual trends which got the American people to this point. The U.S. economy saw a boom during Bill Clinton’s era from 1993-2000. Average U.S. incomes went up on average 4%, but the rich experienced a much larger increase of 10.3%. The rich accounted for nearly half, 45%,†¦show more content†¦The next explanation that lead to such a wide gap in income inequality is related to the tax disparity. If someone makes between $100,000 and $200,000, they pay up to 25% effective tax rate, that is before p ayroll taxes kick in. The 400 richest people surveyed in 2008 paid only 18.1% in taxes, and this rate has only gotten better for them since 2001 when they paid 23%. At the beginning of the Gilded Age marked a landmark movement for American history known as the Great Railroad Strike of 1877. The Gilded Age, beginning in the 1870s, marked a time of high economic growth through industrialization, and railroads being the major growth industry along with the factory system, mining, and finance. America saw a high influx of immigrants from Europe as well as the eastern states led to growth and expansion in the West which was largely based on farming, ranching, and mining. This era marked an era of abject poverty as well as inequality for millions of these immigrants, as the high concentration of wealth and income disparity became more visible and contentious. In 1877, Baltimore Ohio Railroad cut wages for the third time in a year, causing a protest to take place on July 14 in Martinsburg , West Virginia. Workers in various other cities in New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Illinois, and Missouri went on strike due to harsh economic problems and pressure on wages by the railroad industry. Construct Clarification and Development †Free Samples to Students

Question: Discuss about the Construct Clarification and Development. Answer: Introduction: Growth takes both the physical and intellectual forms in such a way that one can think critically towards a specific goal and be able to solve problems efficiently. All these types of development entirely depend on an individuals perspective and the way they interact with others. I was more stubborn in my thinking of this course as I did not understand the simple strategies to develop my cognitive thinking. However, right now I value diversity, public relations and listening to others perspectives before settling on a final decision to a complex problem. From the previous course materials, there are so many aspects that determine personal development ranging from physical, emotional, mental and intellectual. The process of evolution takes different steps which in one way or the other influence the final turnout of ones personality (Carini, 2006). My personal development involves all the activities, experiences, challenges and strengths I have faced in the process of attaining my cognitive abilities. The physical construction is the primary and most evident aspect of personal growth as it involves the changing of ones body in such a way that people can notice the changes. The body goes hand in hand with the mind which in one way or the other helps each other in either the positive or the negative direction (Cottrell, 2015). If one is mentally satisfied, then they tend to show more positive developments on their physical bodies. I have undergone numerous changes ranging from both positive to negative due to other issues directly affect ing my life. Intellectual growth is the most critical developmental process in an individuals life as it determines the possibility of all other types of extensions. Growth begins with the mind and then proceeds to other areas showing a similar impact (Kelly, 2016). My knowledge from the course information implies that an individuals primary need is to progress regarding thinking and the way they perceive different aspects of their lives. The way I used to see growth two years ago entirely differs from the situation at the moment due to increased responsibilities, more skills and knowledge attained over time and also change of plans. When I joined college, the only thing I could think of is going to class and afterward joining my friends for fun activities. I never had any thoughts regarding what might happen to me in a year time. I, therefore, found myself only concentrating on the present moments (Hu, 2003). However, that has changed, and my mind is mature to think of issues of importance like future goals and plans. The change of mentality does not come easy because personality is preferably a permanent issue. I was careless with my thinking because of the young age and fewer responsibilities regarding economic, social and political position (Gough, 2003). I was, therefore, making decisions only for myself without thinking how they could affect other people around me. However, I began getting more burdens like the need to find a source of living and give back to the society with time. Responsibilities are the main contributors of changing personality and positive individual growth. When I began taking responsibility for my actions and decisions, it was challenging with frequent failures and less pleasant moments. I, however, had to keep on pushing because so many people depended on my choices and activities (Hu, 2008). It started getting better when I decided to appreciate my position and do everything towards achieving my set goals. Development of Design thinking Apart from just making sound decisions, it is essential for an individual to put into consideration the need for creativity and problem-solving. Thought should be for the main reason of establishing a problem facing you at the time or likely to come forth in the future then make decisions concerning a possible solution. The society faces a lot of complicated issues that require design thinkers to get reliable solutions that can bring about positive results (Dym, 2005). Design thinking is not something that you achieve in a day according to research from different sources. To be a design thinker, one has to go through specific processes which all build your thinking abilities. The following are the stages that an individual has to undergo to acquire proper design thinking. Empathize: Before trying to come up with ideas and plans for solving anything, it is good to have an empathetic understanding of the problem. Some problems are simple to understand their roots, causes, and possible impacts, while others are complex and require more time and skills to understand. It is therefore essential to consult the experts specialized in the issues facing you (Brown, 2010). Empathizing with other people like friends and family can also help one understand what others have gone through and how they have handled their situations. Empathy enables one to put aside their feelings and views to ensure that they can feel a decision in a more orderly manner. You might think it is easy to handle a particular situation from your thinking only to come and understand that there is more to the issues than what you saw. Therefore listening to others views is essential as it ensures that one can take different perspectives on a particular problem and hence make the process of so lving even more useful (Beckman, 2007). Define: After empathizing with others perspectives about an issue, it is now time to define the problem and establish the core issues that are raising concerns. The definition stage involves the gathering of information with the team and analyzing it to find out the meaning and implications of the different issues connected to the problem (Cooper, 2009). Design thinkers should, therefore, take the define stage to ensure that they can establish a way forward to frame an excellent response to a particular problem. Ideate: Now that you have already listened to others perspectives and collected enough information about your problem, the next step is to think either as an individual or a group and come up with ideas to solve the problem. The stage is facilitated by the two stages prior as discussed and now the team has all the information they need to propose different ideas (Dunne, 2006). Some of the main ways of ideating include brainstorming, scamper, worst possible idea and brain writing. These methods encourage free thinking amongst the team members who see the problems from different perspectives and hence ensures for more appropriate solutions. Prototype: During this stage, the individual now uses the different ideas proposed earlier during ideation to analyze and come up with the best approach depending on the problem at hand. At this point, the design team looks through the problem and all the ideas proposed earlier during the three stages and choose the ones to accept, elaborate, implement and also decline (Lindberg, 2011). It is not always right to take one problem at a time and choose the best solution depending on the benefits, demerit and possible future outcomes. Test: The final stage of the design thinking is now to take the best solutions identified in the prototype stage and come up with a final implementation of the problem (Cooper, 2009). At long last, the most critical activity is to solve a problem in the most efficient way possible. It is therefore advised to follow the stages carefully to come up with the most analyzed answer to a particular question. I find these processes crucial in arriving at an issue that concerns a problem than individual faces. Before the course learning, design thinking seemed too hard and technical that only experts could handle, however as I acquired more knowledge on how to do it, I came to realize that it is the purest form of thinking (Beckman, 2007). As long as you follow the steps each after the other and involve others in the decision making, then the final result will be pleasant. I am now able to handle the situations of problem-solving much better than I used to before and hope to get more enlightened on the issue. Entrepreneurial thinking Entrepreneurial interactions require specialized thought that is known to favor the occurrence of benefits or losses in the activities. In the economic context, entrepreneurship is preferred to as the process of gathering resources ranging from capital and labor to put together an event that is mostly aimed at making profits (Cooper, 2009).During these activities, entrepreneurs face problems that they must solve to ensure efficiency of their businesses. Thinking, in this case, is entirely different as it has to follow the economic values of a business operation and provide that any solutions impact on its profits. Once an organization or an even a small service is facing a problem, then it requires discussions with the parties involved and considerations of the business position to come up with a solution (Krueger, 2007). There are some aspects that an individual or a group should put into consideration when coming up with a decision in a business context. Mutual setting: In every situation occurring between people whether in school, at work, home or any other social environment, then cooperation of members is essential. I find it easier to solve an issue if the people involved come together and help each other in deciding (Gough, 2003). The central aspect of entrepreneurial thinking is learning to have a group mentality to ensure that the contribution of every member is taken seriously and of importance to the situation. Most problems require careful thinking and suggesting of several possibilities or solutions that can work best. A single person will only have one or a few perspectives to an issue, unlike a group whereby each will give a different view. It is therefore essential to seek consultations with team members when establishing the type of decision that favors a particular topic more. Personal and public relations: In any setting whether organizational or at a personal level, individuals should have excellent relationship skills to be able to deal with any problems that arise at any level of life. Issues are sometimes motivated and facilitated by the existence of disagreements and misunderstandings amongst the members of a particular team. It is easier to think of the situation as a way uniting members in a group in case there were earlier disagreements (Thompson, 2009). An individual should, therefore, develop good relationship skills with others to ensure that the process of decision making is faster and more comfortable. Problems are better solved when people can discuss amongst each other and come up with a strategy to handle them as a group. However, this cannot happen if some members are in disagreements as they will be fighting for the betterment of their interests instead of the benefits of the group (Luchs, 2016). I can consider myself an entrepreneurial thinker because I like sharing my ideas and listening to others perspective about a particular situation. Solving an issue alone seems risky to me, and that is why I prefer to take the views of others but in a way that favors the final objectives. Some people may have suggestions that do not match my purposes at the end of the issue, and therefore I look at such cases and only take ideas that can ensure for positive results (Krueger, 2007). Relating with others is an issue that I have been working on for years because it determines the opportunities or helps you can get from others. Earlier on I thought that staying alone and making decisions on my own was the right way to go until I took this course. I now understand that the best way to approach a problem is by involving other people to get their opinion and use it to settle on the best option. Action plan for acquiring appropriate skills and experiences I have discovered a lot from my interactions with the course materials, people around my environment and the way I reason towards certain situations. I can, however, admit that there is still more to learn about personal development and cognitive thinking as an individual who is ready to venture into the job market (Liedtka, 2013). I, therefore, have a plan on how I can acquire more skills and experiences to ensure that I can handle situations better and make the most appropriate decisions. Some of the ways to learn more are by interacting with people of diverse social, economic and cultural setting (Dozier, 2013). Since I already have my views about solving issues due to the way I grew up seeing people behave. However different people have different opinions, and I can, therefore, say that interacting with diverse individuals will ensure that I can learn more about design and entrepreneurial thinking. I am also looking forward to getting a leadership position in any social or economic setting to test my skills for public relations and problem-solving. It is essential to get the right exposure before declaring to have achieved individual skills and experiences in any field (Sriramesh, 2003). I, therefore, find it better to learn from a leaders perspective as they face more issues in their day to day lives. Here I will be able to meet people of diverse origins who share a different point of view, and I will be forced to be more tolerant and listen or even consider their contribution regardless of how it sounds (Lamour, 2009). Lastly, I will take group projects or interactions seriously as I have realized how crucial they can be when conducted in the most efficient way (Huang, 2011). During these interactions, I hope to get more exposure on how to strengthen my public relations by tolerating more and knowing how to contribute without making others feel inferior.
